Smarter support for geriatric care
AutoGeri-Assist explores how artificial intelligence can help clinicians navigate complex patient data — making geriatric care more informed, efficient, and patient-centred.
Project
The project aims to develop an AI-supported system for the automatic generation of structured summaries of patient histories in geriatric care, thereby strengthening expertise and technological capabilities in the field of digital health. Using deep learning methods, the system integrates diverse multimodal patient data, filters out outdated and irrelevant information, and highlights clinically relevant aspects.
The prototype is intended to support physicians and nursing staff in medication management and treatment planning, reduce the burden of clinical documentation, and improve patient safety. It is explicitly not designed to replace clinical decision-making, but rather to provide structured pre-processing and decision support while leaving full professional responsibility with physicians and nursing staff.
An explainable and trustworthy AI architecture (“Explainable AI” and “Trustworthy AI”) ensures transparency, trust, and user acceptance. The system will be designed, implemented, and evaluated in close collaboration with the geriatric department of a hospital and could later be extended to additional hospital departments or other healthcare institutions.
